We are learning all about energy! We now know that energy is everywhere! During class, we have talked about light energy, sound energy & heat energy.

To start our unit of study about pumpkins, kindergarten students observed the outside of the pumpkins and made notes of the physical properties of their own pumpkin. Next, we cut out pumpkins opened and got busy exploring the insides!! We noticed that there is definitely a strong smell inside of a pumpkin. We also talked about the sticky pulp and the hard seeds.
Thank you so much for all your support with our Fall Fundraiser! Now we need to put all those funds to use! The PTA has lots of great programs planned for the year (e.g., Candy land, Movie Nights, Spelling Bee, Carnival, and much more!).
We would love to have you volunteer a few hours of your time to help us plan and run these events. We cannot do it without your help. Please take a minute to fill out this survey so we can add you to our contact list. Our Committee Chairs will then forward information as the individual events get closer. We also have a “General” volunteer spot and this will keep you updated on all the on-call volunteer needs for the year (e.g., help with picture day, flu shots, cafeteria, etc.) Or, if it’s easier, please just email me at [email protected] and I will make sure your name is added to our list. Volunteer Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScEDxEMhmA9Pjvq99r5abJlUZnB3N0ab1BXqOlBFTb9iBEHeQ/viewform?c=0&w=1 This week in kindergarten, we have become apple experts!!! We started the week writing down our apple schema! Throughout the week, we read books, watched videos, learned poems & songs. Now, we know that apples can come in many different colors. We also know that the properties of an apple can be very different depending on the apple. We talked about words like "bumpy(on the bottom), smooth, hard, red, green, light, yellow." We even learned what happens when you peel the skin off an apple, cut it into small pieces and then apply heat (from a crockpot!)...APPLESAUCE!!! Check out our apple pictures and voting below.
We did it!!!! Your donations came pouring in this week and we are beyond grateful!! As a result, Mrs. M got to enjoy a chai tea latte & the class got to enjoy a visit from Stanley the Stallion!! Way to go, little monsters (and parents)!!
We have had such a fun week learning all about community helpers! Today, we had guest speakers come to visit and tell us all about their jobs & how they help the community! We learned about different types of doctors & the tools they use. We met Officer Borne and got to hear about police life! Two of our brave firemen came to visit and teach us all about fire safety. Our very own Mrs. Campos shared her husband with us, and he talked about his time serving our country as a soldier, and explained his job as a VA nurse now! SO cool!!! We had a great time learning about all of these community helpers. Do we have a future doctor or police officer in our class? Maybe!
We had another lesson with our 1st grade partners this week on numbers on a ten frame! After they left for lunch, we got in a little more practice using the application "Kahoot!" It was SOOO much fun and so exciting to see how quickly these smarties could recognize numbers on a ten frame! Practice has paid off!
This past week we spent some time reading books about the alphabet. We read a favorite of mine, The Letters are Lost and went on a letter hunt when we realized all of our class letters had gone missing! What fun! Check out some of the lego letter building that went on this week!
PTA Volunteers
Parents, we’d love your help this year to make our PTA great. Any time you can give us is greatly appreciated, and we can find a spot for everyone! Please watch for the Volunteer Opportunities flyers to come home in this week’s Thursday folders. You can also find these descriptions on the PTA website (http://somerpta.my-pta.org ), under the Volunteer SignUp tab. Please fill out the online Google survey to let us know what you’re interested in and to provide us with your contact information… https://goo.gl/forms/t2O167ANDnKmo2563 Please know that expressing interest on the survey does not obligate you. We will just add you to our distribution list to receive more information on those areas. Thank you so much for all you do! |
