Kindergarten Families,
This week we have started talking about different tools that can help us with additon. We have used counters and manipulatives to show how to join groups. We are learning to master our math racks and numberlines as tools for adding also! Below is a link to digital math rack that would be great to practice with. The math racks that we use at school are a tad different, as they have two rows "an upstairs & downstairs" of 10 beads each. Students are getting good at breaking numbers down and showing all kinds of ways to solve problems! Digital math rack: http://www.mathlearningcenter.org/web-apps/number-rack/ Here is a sample math notebook from one of my kinder stars that shows you how we solved addition problems with our number rack. Students were given a word problem orally, they used their math racks and moved beads to solve it, recorded their numeral addition problem, and then wrapped it up by drawing what their math rack looked like. So impressive!!

The PTA Community Service program is promoting a project in support of Mix 94.7’s Valentine’s Day Cards for Kids. These Valentine’s Day Cards will put lots of smiles on kids faces at Dell Children’s Medical Center, Safe Place, Austin’s Children’s Shelter, Center for Child Protection and Ronald McDonald House Charities of ATX & Central TX. We are asking Patsy Sommer students to bring in either a homemade or a store bought card wishing a child a Happy Valentine’s Day. The cards can be addressed to “A Special Valentine” or “Someone Special”. We are asking for all cards to be turned in to your classroom by Friday, February 6th. Please do not include any candy. Thanks for your help!!! Carrie England PTA Community Service Chair |
