So often in kindergarten we are playing and having fun to help learn and reinforce those important skills. Be sure to talk with your student each evening about what they did and learned at school. Know that it is okay if they say, "We played!"....that means that they had fun and didn't get bored with tedious tasks! I truly believe that when kids are happy and having fun, the learning will come naturally (sometimes without them even realizing it!) I also believe that while it is important to talk academics, it is equally important to discuss social and emotional well being.
Here are some ideas to help get an idea about how your child's day went:
1. What did you learn in science? Did you create something?
2. What is something funny that happened today?
3. How did you feel loved and appreciated today?
4. What problems did you solve in math?
5. Tell me about your favorite book you read today.
6. Who did you play with at recess?
7. What was your favorite part of the day? least favorite?
8. What was something nice you did for somebody else today?
9. What did you write about in your journal?
10. Who was nice to you today? Who were you nice to?
