Phew!! It has been a busy week learning about all of these wonderful natural resources. It is amazing how interested kids are in materials that are found right outside on our playground. We learned all about rocks and the things that we use them for! You might be surprised to find all of the things in our world that are made of rocks. We had fun going on a rock hunt & searching for things around the campus that are made of rock! Students used the rocks that they brought in to complete a report on the physical properties. There were some small pebbles, some larger rocks, some where shiny and some were bumpy! We also had fun experimenting with rocks and testing them to see which ones sink and float. Be sure to ask your student about this experiment! Toward the end of our week, we had so much fun sifting through sand and soil learning what each is made of. Students got to participate in a fun experiment to demonstrate how sand is made from rocks. *Cue them bringing home a bag of sugar! All in the name of science, I promise! :)
