If you know anything about me...you likely know that I HATE snakes! Terrified! SOOO if I have to push through my fear of snakes and have a stuffed one in my classroom, I need it to be for a great cause!! And guess what!?! It is!! Our fall fundraiser is in full swing and information has gone home in Thursday folders! Last week, our class tied with Mrs. Campos' class for highest percentage of donations. I'd LOVE nothing more than to win outright this week!! You can donate online (view the school website for info) or send in donations with your child and I'll make sure they get to the right place! Let's do this!!

We had such fun learning all about the different helpers in our community and even got to hear from some of our Stallion parents and grandparents about the jobs they do in the community! I We just started our week long study of community helpers, the jobs that they do and the tools that they use. We have talked about being a good citizen and what it means to be responsible and work hard, and these conversations are tying in nicely with community helper week. Spending our afternoon talking about doctors and it turns out we know ALOT about them already! Stay tuned for more fun this week...
We started our unit all about the five senses this week with a little problem solving. I showed students two containers but explained that I could not remember which one was salt and which one was sugar and that I would need their help figuring it out! Smart cookies...many knew right off the bat that we could taste them to find out! We decided it was best to use all of our 5 senses to see if we could determine which label belonged to which container. I was so very impressed with the restraint that they showed when they realized which one was sugar! haha We had fun using our 5 senses to problem solve!
I asked the students this question the first week of school and below you can see some of their answers. My personal favorite was "math tells us time...like when we need to go to sleep!" (E.S) You can tell their priorities right off the bat! haha We had a great discussion about what all math entails and all of the little, unsuspecting places you might find math!
Kindergarten is a ridiculous amount of fun. Today we learned all about what happens in a word when bossy r is next to the letter a. We got to put on our best pirate hats (literally) and hunt for "-ar" words. The kids made their adorable treasure chests & filled them with "-ar" word coins! They worked so hARd and looked mighty cute doing it!
Here is our class brainstorming sample: We spent a bit of time last week covering the difference between nouns and verbs. We have been singing a catchy song..."A verb is a word. It's an action word. If you do it, then you do it, if you do it, it's a verb." I have had this song stuck in my head for DAYS...but hey, whatever it takes! Today, we made a class wordle for different verbs. Check it out below and stay tuned for student made wordles!
