We have had so much fun learning all about animals the past few weeks!! First, we learned about different animal classifications (mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians) and examples of each type of animal. Students created their own word wall with illustrations of each type of animal. We have been using our tablets and the Pebble go website to research and write facts about our animals' appearance, habitats, food and fun facts! Students brought in animals from home (sooo many animals!!) and we sorted them, created signs for them and made habitats. We are beyond excited to share our zoo with families on Friday.

Our time in innovation station this week was MY favorite!!! Oh my...we had so much fun!! A big "thanks" to Shweta for organizing and supporting such a fun time for all of the classes.
Check out some of the things we did: -Using circuits to play instruments on the laptops -Coding with the Ozobots -marble maze creating -origami If you are like me, you are probably wondering...."How in the WORLD is this possible? Has it really already been 100 days?" and then you are probably thinking about all the learning and FUN that has happened over those 100 days. Here are a few of my favorite memories:
- The first day of school!! I LOVED the excitement of the kids (and the nervousness of the parents). -Our field trip to the Palace theater in Georgetown -Recess -Lunch dates with students -Watching the kids play at choice workshop -Innovation Station -Hearing funny comments such as, "You know they used that kind of lamp before electricity...like in 1984." -Getting to spend every day with these fun, energetic and kind-heart kiddos and watching them soak up every little thing. What was YOUR favorite memory of the first 100 days? Just to give you a little peek into how we are solving math problems these days!
Next up...writing about HOW we solved to explain our thinking. These kindergarten smarties never cease to amaze me with all of the things that they know! We have been talking about day vs. night, and objects that you see in the sky during these times. We painted suns and wrote facts about them. One of my favorites was, " The sun has been around for 4 or 5 billions years and still has more to go."
Check out some of our schema, wonderings & learnings. It was interesting to see the things that they picked up on! This week in writing we are focusing on writing captions! We started our writing time matching captions to appropriate pictures, giving captions to various animal pictures and finally...worked on a caption for our own illustration!!
This past week started the kick off for Math Super Stars for kindergarten!! Information went home in Thursday folders along with the copy of the first worksheet! I had many students turn it in on Friday! Woo hoo!! Going forward, you will be responsible for printing the worksheets if your student chooses to participate. Worksheets are due each Thursday in the red folder outside of my classroom. You can find the worksheets at the MSS website here: tinyurl.com/SommerMathSuperStars
PLEASE remind students to turn in the worksheets if they have it Thursday morning. Students can earn fun prizes and a chance to join the end of year ice cream party...all while practicing their math skills! Let the games begin!! We had the amazing chance this week to start our Innovation Station Rotations (wow, mouthful!) The kids LOVED it...and so did I! It was really great to see them creating, collaborating and learning in a new environment. Check out some of our pictures from this awesome time!
Together, we have talked about the personality and character traits that we want to have in a friend!! Check out our list below and let us know if there is something else you can think of that you would want a friend to do or say.
Traits of a good friend: -Use nice words -Be kind -Be nice to each other -Be gentle, don't fight -Say, "I'm sorry" -Help you! -Check on you - Smile at you -Include you -Gentle Hands With the beautiful weather we are having today, it is hard to believe it is winter. I guess that's Texas for you!! I don't know about you all, but I really enjoyed this weekend's cold temperatures! Warm chai tea, a fire in fireplace & sweatpants...wahoo!!
I am so impressed with how much schema these little Texans had about winter. Maybe they are dreaming about what winter is like in other states!! haha Either way, it was a great discussion on the properties of winter, what we can do in winter and how plants & animals survive winter! |
